Roadside Elk

It looked at us as we slowed down
If it could, I think it would frown
The elk was by the roadside
Feeding on what they can find

Finding what is needed to survive
In a herd more than five
We sat there in the car
We didn’t want to go far

Farther on we traveled to our cabin cozy
Thinking of the mountains ahead brings thoughts so rosy
We end our travels for the supper table
A good meal was cooked by those who were able

We were thankful to God above
I could feel His love
I was so glad to be there
In the country of bears
